Random team generator

Paste a list of names and split it into random, balanced teams. Choose how many teams you need, or how many people should be in each.

Free and private. Everything runs in your browser, nothing is uploaded.

How it works

  1. Paste the namesOne name per line, for example a class list or the players tonight.
  2. Choose the splitNumber of teams, or number of people per team.
  3. Make teamsTeams appear as cards. Shuffle again if you want a new mix.

Balanced teams in seconds

Picking teams by hand takes time and someone is always picked last. The generator shuffles the list fairly and deals the names out one by one, like cards, so team sizes never differ by more than one person. Thirteen players in three teams become teams of five, four and four.

Choose By teams when you know how many groups you need, for example four tables in a workshop. Choose People per team when the group size matters, for example pairs or groups of three for a class project.

Use the result anywhere

Copy the teams as text to paste into a chat or a document, or download a CSV file with a team and member column for a spreadsheet. Your list is kept in this browser, so the same class or squad is ready next time.

Frequently asked questions

What if the names do not divide evenly?

Some teams get one more person. Sizes never differ by more than one.

Can I make pairs?

Yes. Choose People per team and enter 2. With an odd number of people one group becomes a trio, so nobody is left alone.

Is the shuffle random?

Yes. It uses the secure random generator in your browser, and every arrangement is equally likely.

Is my list stored anywhere?

Only in your own browser.
