Text from any picture
OCR (optical character recognition) finds the letters in an image and turns them into real text you can edit, search and translate. It works best on screenshots, scans and sharp photos of printed text such as documents, books, receipts, labels and slides.
Recognition uses Tesseract, a proven open source OCR engine, with language data for 20 languages including English, Spanish, German, Russian, Arabic, Hindi, Chinese, Japanese and Korean. Only the language you choose is downloaded, 1 to 3 MB, and then stays in your browser.
Tips for better results
Use a sharp, straight image with good contrast. Crop away anything that is not text. Small images are enlarged automatically before reading. Handwriting is not reliably recognized.
