Keyboard test

Press every key and watch it light up. Keys you have tested stay marked, so dead or sticky keys are easy to spot. Works with any keyboard layout.

Free and private. Everything runs in your browser, nothing is uploaded.

How it works

  1. Press the keysPress each key once. It lights up while pressed and stays marked.
  2. Look for gapsKeys that never get marked may be broken.
  3. Test rolloverHold several keys at once and read how many were detected.

Find dead and sticky keys

Spilled coffee, a new mechanical keyboard or a second hand laptop: the fastest way to check a keyboard is to press every key once and see which ones never react. Keys are matched by their physical position, so the test works with US, UK, German, French, Turkish and every other layout. In Chrome and Edge the keys even show the letters of your own layout.

A key that stays lit after you let go is sticking. The panel shows the key name, the code and whether it was the left or right version, which helps when setting up shortcuts or games.

Ghosting and key rollover

Gamers need keys like W, A, Shift and Space to register together. Hold several keys at once and look at Most at once. Cheaper keyboards often stop at 2 or 3 keys in some combinations, which is called ghosting; gaming keyboards with n-key rollover register them all.

Frequently asked questions

Why do some keys not light up?

Some keys are handled by the operating system before the browser sees them, such as the Windows key in some combinations, Fn, or media keys. A key that never lights up on its own may also be faulty.

Does it work with my keyboard layout?

Yes. Keys are detected by their physical position. Chrome and Edge also show the letters of your layout.

Can I still use the page with the keyboard?

Yes. Press Esc to leave the test area; the page then works normally. Click the keyboard to continue testing.

Is what I type recorded?

No. Keys are only shown on this page and are not stored or sent.
