QR code reader

Read a QR code from an image, a screenshot or your camera. You see the content before anything opens: where a link really goes, the Wi-Fi password, or the contact details ready to save.

Free and private. Everything runs in your browser, nothing is uploaded.

How it works

  1. Add the QR codeDrop an image, choose a file, paste a screenshot with Ctrl+V or start the camera.
  2. Check the contentThe content is shown with its type: link, Wi-Fi, contact, email, phone or text.
  3. Use itCopy the text, open the link, copy the Wi-Fi password or save the contact.

Look before you open

A QR code can hide any address, and fake codes on parking meters, posters and emails are a common trick. This reader shows the domain a link goes to in large letters and only opens it when you press the button.

Reading happens entirely in your browser. Images, screenshots and the camera picture are never sent anywhere, which matters for codes that contain passwords or personal details.

Codes on your screen, not just on paper

Phone cameras are great for printed codes, but a code on your own computer screen is awkward to scan. Take a screenshot, press Ctrl+V on this page and the content appears right away.

If a code cannot be read, try a sharper image, crop it closer to the code or make sure the whole code including its margin is visible.

Frequently asked questions

Are my images or camera picture uploaded?

No. Images are decoded in your browser and the camera picture is processed frame by frame on your device. Nothing is sent to our servers.

Why does the browser ask for camera access?

The camera is only used while the camera view is open. It stops as soon as a code is found, when you press Stop or when you switch to another tab.

Can it read barcodes too?

This tool reads QR codes. Classic barcodes such as EAN-13 need a different reader.

What if an image has several QR codes?

One code is read per image. Crop the image around the code you need, or add each crop as a separate image.

Does it work offline?

Yes. After you open the page once, reading images and using the camera work without an internet connection.
