Password generator

Create strong, random passwords in one click. Choose the length and which characters to use, and see how long it would take to crack the result.

Free and private. Everything runs in your browser, nothing is uploaded.

How it works

  1. Set the length16 characters or more is a good default for accounts.
  2. Pick the charactersUse all sets unless a site does not allow symbols.
  3. CopyCopy the password and save it in your password manager.

Truly random, truly private

Every character is picked with the secure random generator of your browser, the same one used for encryption, with equal odds and no bias. The password is created on your device and is never sent to a server, logged or stored, not even by us.

The strength shown is the real entropy of the settings you chose, in bits, together with an estimate of how long an attacker trying ten billion guesses per second would need on average. 80 bits and more is very strong for any online account.

Practical options

Turn on Avoid look-alike characters when a password has to be typed by hand or read aloud, so 0 and O or 1, l and I are never confused. Generate up to 500 passwords at once for new user accounts or test data. Use a different password for every site and keep them in a password manager.

Frequently asked questions

Are the passwords stored or sent anywhere?

No. They are generated in your browser and disappear when you leave the page.

How long should my password be?

At least 16 random characters for important accounts. Longer is always stronger.

Why include symbols?

Each extra character type makes every position harder to guess. If a site rejects symbols, turn them off and add a few characters.

Is a random password better than a memorable one?

Yes, as long as you store it in a password manager. Memorable passwords tend to follow patterns attackers know.
