How it works
Add your textType, paste or open a text file. The counts update as you type.
Read the numbersSee words, characters, sentences, paragraphs, reading time and SMS parts at a glance.
Check the limitsThe bars show how much room is left for posts, titles and meta descriptions.
More than a number
Essays, articles, product descriptions and ads usually come with a word or character limit. This counter shows every number you might need in one place and keeps updating while you edit, so you can trim a text until it fits.
Reading time is based on about 220 words per minute and speaking time on about 130, which helps when you prepare a talk, a video script or a radio spot.
Limits that matter
A post on X allows 280 characters, a meta description shows about 160 in search results and a page title about 60. The limit bars compare your text with these at once.
SMS messages are split into parts of 160 characters, but a single special character such as ş, ğ or an emoji switches the whole message to parts of 70. The counter shows how many parts your message will take.
Frequently asked questions
Is my text stored or uploaded?
No. Counting happens in your browser and nothing is sent to our servers.
How are words counted?
Words are found with the browser's language rules, so numbers, hyphenated words and words with apostrophes are handled sensibly. Punctuation and spaces are not counted as words.
Do emoji count as one character?
Yes. The counter counts characters as you see them, so an emoji or a letter with an accent counts once. Some platforms count emoji as two; the difference is usually small.
Why does my SMS take more parts than expected?
Messages with characters outside the basic SMS alphabet, such as many accented letters or emoji, use shorter parts of 70 characters. Replacing them can save parts.
Does it work offline?
Yes. After you open the page once, it keeps working without an internet connection.
