Mouse test

Click, scroll and move in the test area to check every button of your mouse. The test also catches the unwanted double clicks of a worn out button.

Free and private. Everything runs in your browser, nothing is uploaded.

How it works

  1. Click every buttonClick in the test area with each mouse button, including the side buttons.
  2. Scroll and moveRoll the wheel both ways and move the mouse quickly in circles.
  3. Read the resultButtons that double click by themselves are marked in red.

Is your mouse double clicking by itself?

A very common fault in mice is a worn switch that sends two clicks when you press once. Files open when you only wanted to select them, and dragging drops things halfway. People cannot press a button twice within 80 milliseconds, so the test counts any two presses closer than that as a fault and marks the button in red. Click normally for a minute; if the counter stays at zero, the button is fine.

The side buttons, back and forward, are captured too without leaving the page, and the right button does not open a menu inside the test area.

Polling rate

Move the mouse quickly in circles to see how often it reports its position. Office mice usually run at 125 Hz, gaming mice at 500 or 1000 Hz and more. Browsers may limit the rate, so treat the number as an estimate.

Frequently asked questions

How does the double click detection work?

Two presses of the same button less than 80 ms apart are counted as chatter. That is faster than any person can click, so it points to a worn switch.

Why do the back and forward buttons not change the page?

Inside the test area these buttons are captured so you can test them. Outside it they work as usual.

How accurate is the polling rate?

It is an estimate from the movement events the browser receives. Some browsers group events, so very high rates may show lower.

Does it work with a touchpad?

Clicks and scrolling work. Button chatter detection is meant for mouse buttons.
