What happens to each photo
An AI model finds the product and removes everything around it. The product is then trimmed to its edges, placed in the middle of a pure white canvas and scaled so it takes up the share of the frame you chose. The result is saved as a JPG at quality 92, sharp enough for zoom and still a reasonable file size.
The model runs in your browser. It downloads once (about 98 MB) and is then kept by your browser, so later photos start right away. If a photo is small and had to be enlarged a lot, its row tells you, because it may look soft. If no product could be found, the row says that too.
Shooting tips for clean results
Soft, even light matters more than an expensive camera. Shoot near a large window on a cloudy day or use two lamps from the sides, and avoid direct sun or a single flash that throws hard shadows. A plain background that contrasts with the product, such as white paper behind a dark item, helps the cutout.
Let the product fill most of the viewfinder and use the highest resolution your phone or camera offers. The tool can scale a small product up, but it cannot add detail that was never captured.
When to switch AI removal off
If you already shoot on a white sweep or in a light box, turn off Remove the background with AI. The tool then only trims the white margins and centers the product, which is faster and needs no model download.
Turning it off is also worth trying for glass, clear plastic and products with very thin parts like wires or straps, where an AI cutout can lose some edges. Compare both results and keep the better one.
A consistent catalog
Products look professional side by side when they all have the same margin. Pick one platform and one fill value and use them for every product, so a mug and a lamp both reach the same distance from the edge.
The longest side of the product decides its size. A tall bottle fills the height and leaves white on both sides; a wide rug fills the width. For very wide items a 4:3 canvas such as the Etsy preset wastes less space, and lowering the fill a little gives tall and wide products some room to breathe. Platforms update their image rules from time to time, so check the platform's current rules before a large upload.
