How it works
Type a numberEnter it with or without thousands separators, such as 1,234.56 or 1234,56.
Choose language and stylePick the language and Number, Ordinal or Amount. Language options appear where they matter.

How to fill in the amount line
On a check the amount appears twice: in figures in the box and in words on the line. The words count if the two differ, so they must be exact. Write the whole amount in words, then the cents as a fraction of 100, and draw a line through the rest of the space so nothing can be added. In the United States the usual form is One thousand two hundred fifty and 45/100, with the currency printed or written after it.
Invoices and contracts in many countries also repeat the total in words. There the cents are usually written in words too: one thousand two hundred fifty dollars and forty-five cents. Choose In words for the cents and type your subunit name, such as cents, centavos or centimes.
Currency names and plurals
The tool does not pick a currency for you, because the right name depends on your country and the document. Type it as singular/plural, for example dollar/dollars, peso/pesos, real/reais or euro/euros, and the correct form is used for one and for other amounts. Leave the field empty for the words only.
Frequently asked questions
Should the first letter be capital?
On checks the amount usually starts with a capital letter. Choose First capital or UPPERCASE under Letters.
What if the amount has more than two decimals?
It is rounded to cents, and the tool tells you that it rounded.
How do I write 1,250.45 on a check?
In English: One thousand two hundred fifty and 45/100 dollars. Choose Amount, type your currency name and choose 45/100 for the cents.
Why does my number look different in German?
German writes numbers below a million as a single word and puts the units before the tens: 21 is einundzwanzig, 1,234 is eintausendzweihundertvierunddreißig.
How are decimals read?
English and German read the digits one by one (twelve point zero five). Spanish, Portuguese, French and Turkish read the decimal part as a number (doce coma cero cinco, on iki virgül otuz dört).
What is the largest number?
Up to 999,999,999,999,999 (just under a quadrillion in English). Decimals can be as long as you like and are read as described above.
Can I choose a currency?
Type any currency name yourself. Write it as singular/plural, for example dollar/dollars, to get the right form for 1 and for other amounts.
Is the number sent anywhere?
No. The words are made in your browser and nothing is uploaded.
