Markdown to HTML converter

Convert Markdown to clean HTML as you type. Paste the Markdown or open a .md file, check the result in the preview, then copy the HTML code or download a complete HTML page.

Your files never leave your device. Everything runs in your browser.

How it works

  1. Write or openType in the left box, paste text, or open a .md file. The preview on the right updates as you type.
  2. FormatUse the toolbar or the shortcuts for bold, links, lists, task lists, tables and code blocks.
  3. ExportDownload a complete HTML page, copy the HTML code, copy formatted text, or save the Markdown as a .md file.

Clean HTML without extras

The converter writes plain semantic HTML: h1 to h6 for headings, p for paragraphs, ul, ol and li for lists, table with thead and tbody for tables, pre and code for code blocks. There are no wrapper divs or inline styles, and classes appear only where they carry meaning, so the code fits into any template and takes its look from your own stylesheet.

Choose HTML under Show to watch the code change as you edit. Copy HTML copies the fragment for a CMS or email template, and Download HTML saves a standalone page with a title taken from the first heading and light styling for reading.

What is converted

Headings get id attributes that match GitHub's anchors, table columns keep their alignment, task list items become checkboxes, and fenced code blocks keep their language as a class like language-js, which syntax highlighters such as Prism or highlight.js pick up. Unsafe HTML in the source is removed during conversion.

About Markdown

Markdown is a plain text format with simple marks for formatting, such as # for headings and ** for bold. It is used for README files, documentation, wikis, notes apps and many forums.

About HTML

HTML is the language of web pages. The exported file is a complete page with headings, lists, tables and links that opens in any browser or can be pasted into a CMS.

Frequently asked questions

Can I convert a README.md file?

Yes. Press Open file and choose the README.md, or drop it on the left box. The HTML is ready immediately.

Do single line breaks become br tags?

Not by default, as in standard Markdown. Turn on Line breaks like GitHub comments to turn every line break into a br tag.

Is my text uploaded or saved on a server?

No. Everything happens in your browser. The draft is kept only in this browser's storage so it survives a reload; clear the editor to remove it.

Does it support GitHub Flavored Markdown?

It supports the parts people use most: tables with alignment, task lists, strikethrough, fenced code blocks with a language, automatic links and heading anchors. Footnotes and math formulas are not supported.

Can I use HTML inside Markdown?

Yes, common tags like br, sub, sup, kbd, details and summary work. Scripts, styles, forms, frames and event attributes are always removed.

Why do images from the web not appear in the preview?

For security, this page does not load images from other sites. The preview shows a placeholder with the image's description instead; the exported HTML keeps the image links, and pasted images in data form are shown.

How do I paste the result into Word or Gmail?

Press Copy formatted text and paste with Ctrl+V. Headings, lists, links and tables keep their formatting.

Does it work offline and on a phone?

Yes. After the page has been opened once it keeps working without a connection, and the editor also works on phones and tablets, where the preview appears below the text.
