PDF to text

Get the text out of a PDF as plain text, ready to edit, search, translate or paste into another program. Line breaks and reading order are kept as well as possible.

Your files never leave your device. Everything runs in your browser.

How it works

  1. Add the PDFsDrop one or more PDF files.
  2. Choose pagesAll pages by default, or a range like 1-5.
  3. Download the textEach PDF becomes a TXT file you can open in any editor.

When copy and paste is not enough

Selecting text in a PDF viewer often breaks lines in odd places, mixes columns or stops at the end of a page. The extractor reads the text layer of every page in order and writes it to one clean text file, with optional markers so you always know which page a passage came from.

The result is a UTF-8 text file that keeps accented letters and every alphabet, ready for search, translation tools, AI assistants or a word processor.

Scanned PDFs

A scan is a picture of a page and has no text layer. In that case the tool tells you that no text was found instead of returning an empty file. Your PDFs are read in your browser and are never uploaded.

Frequently asked questions

Why is no text found in my PDF?

The PDF is probably a scan, which contains images of pages but no text. Such files need OCR (text recognition).

Is the layout kept?

Line breaks and reading order are kept. Tables, columns and fonts are not, since the result is plain text.

Are my files uploaded?

No. The text is extracted in your browser.

Does it work with any language?

Yes. The text file is UTF-8, so every language and alphabet is kept.
