Remove PDF metadata

Strip the author name, title, dates, software details and XMP data from one or many PDFs at once, and download clean copies ready to share.

Your files never leave your device. Everything runs in your browser.

How it works

  1. Open the PDFDrop a PDF. Its metadata appears in the form, with a few facts about the file.
  2. Edit or removeChange the fields you want, or press Remove all metadata.
  3. DownloadDownload the new PDF. The original on your device stays as it was.

Clean files before you share them

Drop as many PDFs as you like. Each one is rewritten without the information dictionary, without XMP metadata and without private data stored by design apps. The row shows how many entries were removed. Pages, text, images, links and form fields are not changed.

Old values are not just unlinked: objects the document no longer uses are left out of the new file, so the removed data cannot be found in it later. To see or edit single fields instead, open the PDF metadata editor.

When to clean metadata

Clean files before you send a CV, an offer, a contract or anything you publish on a website. The author field often holds the full name of whoever set up the computer, and the dates show when the document was really made.

Frequently asked questions

What exactly is removed?

Title, author, subject, keywords, creator, producer, creation and modification dates, all XMP metadata blocks and private application data.

Will the PDF still open everywhere?

Yes. Metadata is optional; every PDF reader opens the file without it.

Why does my PDF viewer still show the old title?

Some viewers cache file information. Close the file completely and open the downloaded copy. The new copy contains your values in both the information dictionary and XMP.

Does editing change the content?

No. Only the document information changes. Pages, text, images, links and form fields stay as they were.

Are hidden or deleted values left in the file?

No. The file is rewritten without old revisions and without objects that are no longer used, so removed values are not hidden inside it.

Can I edit password protected PDFs?

Remove the password first with Unlock PDF, then edit the metadata.

Are my files uploaded?

No. The PDF is read and saved in your browser.
