Color palette from image

Turn a photo into a color palette: the main colors of the picture with their HEX codes, ready for a website, a presentation or a brand.

Your files never leave your device. Everything runs in your browser.

How it works

  2. Choose the number of colors5, 8 or 12 colors.
  3. Copy the paletteClick a color to copy its code, or copy all.

From a photo to a color scheme

A good photo already has colors that work together. The generator groups all pixels of the image into a few color families and gives you the average color of each, the most common first. Use 5 colors for a simple scheme or 12 to keep more nuance.

The palette is computed with the median cut method, the same idea used by image compressors to choose their colors.

Use the codes

Frequently asked questions

How are the palette colors chosen?

Similar colors are grouped and the average of each group is used; groups with more pixels come first.

Why does the palette change with the number of colors?

With more colors the image is split into smaller groups, so subtler shades appear.

Are my images uploaded?

No. Colors are read in your browser.

What is the difference between HEX and RGB?

Both describe the same color. HEX is a short form used in CSS and design tools, RGB lists the red, green and blue values from 0 to 255.

Can I pick a color outside the image?

In Chrome and Edge, use Pick from screen to take a color from anywhere on your screen.
