How it works
Open the videoDrop a video; the aspect ratio for this page is already selected.
Place the frameDrag the frame over the part to keep, or choose Fit with background to keep the whole picture.
SavePress Crop video and download the result.
Two ways to go vertical
Crop cuts a tall slice out of the wide picture. From a 1920×1080 video that slice is 606×1080 pixels: it fills the phone screen, but everything left and right of the frame is lost, so it suits videos where the action happens in one place, such as a person talking to the camera.
Fit with background keeps the whole wide picture and fills the space above and below. The blurred background takes its colors from the video itself and looks calmer than black bars. The result is 1080×1920, the standard size for vertical video, and nothing is cut off.
Tips for vertical platforms
Apps place buttons, captions and the account name over the bottom and right side of a vertical video. When cropping, keep faces and text in the middle and upper part of the frame. Use the Preview frame slider to check the start, middle and end of the clip before saving.
Frequently asked questions
What size is a 9:16 video?
1080×1920 pixels is the usual size. Fit with background gives this size for a Full HD video; Crop gives the size of the frame you chose.
Can I use the same video for Reels, Shorts and TikTok?
Yes. All three use 9:16, so one vertical file works on each of them.
Is my video uploaded?
No. The video is processed in your browser and never leaves your device. There is no watermark.
How do I make a horizontal video vertical without cutting anything off?
Choose 9:16 and Fit with background. The whole video stays visible in the middle, with a blurred copy of it above and below.
Does cropping reduce the quality?
The picture is encoded again at high quality, so the difference is hard to see. Cropping does not add detail: a small part of a video enlarged on a big screen looks softer.
Can the crop follow a moving subject?
No, the frame stays in one place for the whole video. Check several moments with the Preview frame slider and place the frame so the subject stays inside.
Is the sound kept?
Yes. The sound is copied, or converted to AAC when the MP4 or MOV result needs it.
