Current UTC time

This page shows the current Coordinated Universal Time (UTC), live and to the second, together with the ISO 8601 timestamp and your own local time. Add more cities below to compare them with UTC.

Free and private. Everything runs in your browser, nothing is uploaded.

How it works

  1. Read the UTC timeThe first card shows Coordinated Universal Time, live, with the ISO 8601 form below it.
  2. Compare with your timeYour own clock and a few major cities are shown next to it.
  3. Add the zones you needAdd servers, airports or offices by city name; the list is remembered.

What UTC is used for

UTC is the reference time of the world. It does not change for summer or winter, so it is used wherever times from different places must line up: server logs and databases, flight plans and weather reports, which call it Zulu time, radio schedules, financial markets and scientific measurements. A time written as 14:05Z or 2026-10-27T14:05:00Z is in UTC; the Z stands for zero offset.

The ISO 8601 line under the clock is the format most software expects. You can copy it as it is into a log search, a ticket or a spreadsheet.

UTC and GMT

For everyday use UTC and Greenwich Mean Time show the same clock time. The difference is in the definition: UTC is kept by atomic clocks and adjusted with leap seconds, while GMT is the time zone used by the United Kingdom in winter. In summer the UK switches to BST, one hour ahead, but UTC stays where it is. That is why the London card on this page shows UTC+1 from late March to late October.

Frequently asked questions

Is UTC the same as GMT?

On the clock, yes: both are at offset zero. GMT is a time zone, UTC is the time standard. The UK uses GMT only in winter; UTC never changes.

Does UTC change for daylight saving time?

No. UTC is the same all year. Local time zones move relative to it when they switch between summer and winter time.

How do I add a city that is not in the list?

Type a nearby large city in the same time zone or the time zone name, such as Asia/Kolkata or America/Phoenix. Common city names like Mumbai, San Francisco or Dubai are recognised directly.

Does the world clock adjust for daylight saving time?

Yes. Every card uses your browser's time zone rules, so summer and winter time changes are applied automatically for each city on its own date.

How accurate is the time?

The clocks follow your device clock. Phones and computers that set their time automatically are usually accurate to well under a second.

Can I show the clocks on a TV or second screen?

Yes. Press Full screen, or double click the clock area. The screen stays on while the full screen view is open.

Is my city list uploaded anywhere?

No. It is stored only in your browser. The share link keeps the list after the # sign, which browsers never send to a server.
