Read QR code from image

Read QR codes from photos, screenshots and saved images. Drop several files at once or paste a screenshot straight from the clipboard.

Free and private. Everything runs in your browser, nothing is uploaded.

How it works

  1. Add the QR codeStart the camera, drop an image or paste a screenshot. Several images can be read at once.
  2. Check the contentYou see what the code contains before anything happens, including where a link really goes.
  3. Use itCopy the text, open the link, copy the password or save the contact with one click.

Works with real photos

Each image is tried at several sizes, which helps with large phone photos and with small codes in screenshots alike. PNG, JPG, WebP, GIF, BMP and SVG files are supported.

Images that contain no readable code are listed too, with tips on how to get a better picture.

About PNG

Screenshots are usually PNG files with sharp edges, which makes them the easiest images to read. Phone photos are JPG and work just as well when the code is in focus.

About TXT

The decoded content is shown as plain text that you can copy. Links, Wi-Fi details, contact cards, email addresses and phone numbers are recognized and shown in a readable form.

Frequently asked questions

Can I read a QR code from a PDF?

Turn the page into an image first with the PDF to JPG tool, or take a screenshot of the code and paste it here.

Are my images or camera picture uploaded?

No. Images are decoded in your browser and the camera picture is processed frame by frame on your device. Nothing is sent to our servers.

Why does the browser ask for camera access?

The camera is only used while the camera view is open. It stops as soon as a code is found, when you press Stop or when you switch to another tab.

Can it read barcodes too?

This tool reads QR codes. Classic barcodes such as EAN-13 need a different reader.

What if an image has several QR codes?

One code is read per image. Crop the image around the code you need, or add each crop as a separate image.

Does it work offline?

Yes. After you open the page once, reading images and using the camera work without an internet connection.
