How it works
Enter the billType the total and the tip you want to leave.
Set the peopleEnter how many are paying, or give shares.
See each shareRound up to whole numbers so paying is easy.
Who pays what
Splitting evenly is the quickest way: total with tip divided by the number of people. If the result does not come out even, a few people pay one cent more, and the amounts are listed so nobody is short at the end. Rounding each share up to a whole number avoids coins; the extra goes to the tip.
For trips, shared flats or dinners where some people ordered more, switch to shares. Give each person a weight, such as 1 for most people, 2 for a couple paying together and 0.5 for a child. Every amount is calculated from the same total, so the parts always add up. Set the tip to 0 to split costs that have no tip, such as rent, a gift or fuel.
Frequently asked questions
Can I split without a tip?
Yes. Type 0 in the tip box and the bill is split as it is.
Should I tip on the amount before or after tax?
Many people tip on the amount before tax. To do that, enter the pre-tax amount here and add the tax to the total yourself.
What does rounding each share do?
Every person's amount is rounded up to a whole number. The total grows by a little, which is added to the tip.
Does it work with my currency?
Yes. The amounts are plain numbers formatted the way your language writes them, so any currency works.
Is anything sent or saved online?
No. Everything is calculated in your browser. The last bill is remembered only on this device so it is there next time. The calculator is free.
