UPC-A and EAN-13

A UPC-A code is an EAN-13 code that starts with 0, drawn with its first and last digits outside the bars. Scanners around the world read both.

If you sell on Amazon or other marketplaces in the US, use the UPC numbers assigned to your products.

Like all types here, UPC-A works in bulk: paste the whole list and download every barcode as PNG, SVG or a label sheet.

About UPC-A

UPC-A is the 12 digit retail barcode used in the United States and Canada. It is read by scanners worldwide and is the format marketplaces such as Amazon US ask for.

About PNG

PNG files have sharp edges with no blur, which is what scanners need. Each barcode is drawn with whole pixels per bar, so it prints cleanly at its natural size.

Frequently asked questions

Can I turn a UPC into an EAN-13?

Yes. Put a 0 in front of the 12 digit UPC and you have the matching EAN-13, with the same check digit.

Are my codes uploaded anywhere?

No. Barcodes, ZIP files and PDF sheets are created in your browser. Your product list never leaves your device.

Can I use these barcodes on products I sell?

The barcodes are drawn to the standard and scan correctly. For retail you also need numbers that belong to your company, which you get from GS1 in your country.

Which type should I use?

EAN-13 for retail products in most of the world, UPC-A in the US and Canada, ITF-14 for shipping cartons and Code 128 for internal codes such as SKUs, shelf locations and shipments.

How do I print labels?

Choose PDF labels, pick the sheet layout that matches your label paper and download. Print at 100% scale, not fit to page, so the barcodes keep their size.

Does it work offline?

Yes. After you open the page once, it keeps working without an internet connection.
