UUID v7 generator

Create time-ordered UUID v7 identifiers that sort by creation time, ideal as primary keys in PostgreSQL, MySQL and other databases.

Free and private. Everything runs in your browser, nothing is uploaded.

How it works

  1. GenerateThe format is preset for this page. Press New list for fresh IDs.
  2. Adjust if neededChange the count, case or hyphens.
  3. CopyCopy the IDs or download them as a text file.

Why v7 for database keys

Random v4 keys are inserted all over a B-tree index, which slows down writes and wastes space as tables grow. A v7 UUID starts with a 48 bit Unix timestamp in milliseconds, so new rows land at the end of the index, just like an auto increment number, while the IDs stay globally unique and safe to generate on any server or client.

The remaining bits are random, with a counter inside the same millisecond so a batch generated at once is strictly ordered.

Check the timestamp

Paste a v7 UUID into the decoder below to see the exact time it was created. Generation and decoding happen in your browser.

Frequently asked questions

Is UUID v7 standardised?

Yes. It is defined in RFC 9562, published in 2024, which replaces RFC 4122.

Are these UUIDs unique?

In practice yes. v4 has 122 random bits; v7 has 74 random bits per millisecond plus a counter.

What is the difference between UUID and GUID?

GUID is Microsoft's name for the same thing. They are often written in uppercase and in braces.

Can I see when a UUID was created?

For versions 1, 6 and 7, yes. Paste it into the decoder.

Are the IDs sent anywhere?

No. They are generated in your browser.
