Animated WebP maker

Create an animated WebP from your pictures: full color, smooth transparent edges and usually a much smaller file than the same animation as a GIF.

Your files never leave your device. Everything runs in your browser.

How it works

  1. Add the framesDrop two or more pictures and drag them into the order they should play.
  2. Set speed and sizeChoose the frame duration, how often it repeats, the size and how pictures of other shapes are fitted. The preview updates right away.
  3. Make and downloadPick GIF, WebP or MP4, press the button and download the animation.

Why animated WebP

WebP animations are not limited to 256 colors, so photos, gradients and shadows look as they should. Transparency can be partial, which keeps soft edges around logos and stickers clean instead of jagged. Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari show animated WebP, as do most current chat apps and content management systems.

Each frame is compressed with your browser's WebP encoder at high quality and the frames are combined into one animated file with your durations and repeat count.

When to keep GIF instead

Some email programs, older forums and a few upload forms still accept only GIF. If the animation has to work there, switch the output to GIF; the frames, order and timing stay the same. Safari can show animated WebP but cannot create it, so on an iPhone or Mac use GIF or MP4 output, or Chrome, Edge or Firefox.

About WebP

Animated WebP keeps full color and soft transparency and is usually much smaller than GIF.

Frequently asked questions

Is animated WebP smaller than GIF?

Usually yes, especially for photos. For simple drawings with few colors the difference is smaller.

Can the WebP have a transparent background?

Yes. Turn on Transparent and transparent parts of your pictures, and the edges added by Fit, stay transparent.

Are my pictures uploaded?

No. The frames are read and the animation is created in your browser, so your pictures never leave your device.

Is the GIF maker free, with no watermark?

Yes. There is no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on how many animations you make.

How many frames can I use?

As many as your device can handle. Dozens of photos are no problem; with hundreds of large frames choose a smaller width so the GIF stays a reasonable size.

Why does my GIF look grainier than the photos?

A GIF can hold only 256 colors, shared by all frames. Smooth gradients and skin tones suffer most. Choose WebP or MP4 when full color matters.

Can I use an animated GIF as a frame?

An added GIF counts as one frame and its first picture is used. To change an existing animation, convert it with the GIF to video tool or the image converter instead.

Does it work offline?

Yes. Once the page is open, GIF and WebP need no connection. MP4 needs a small video library that loads the first time you make an MP4; after that it works offline too.
