Excel to JSON

Convert an Excel sheet into a JSON array where every row is an object and column names are the keys. Ready for APIs, scripts and test data.

Your files never leave your device. Everything runs in your browser.

How it works

  1. Add your Excel dataOpen the file or paste its content into the input box. The first row is used as the header.
  2. Check the previewJSON is already selected. Look over the rows and columns in the preview.
  3. DownloadDownload the JSON file or copy the result and use it wherever you need.

Typed values, not just text

Column types are detected from the data, so prices become numbers, flags become true or false and empty cells become null. Codes with leading zeros stay strings.

The result is formatted and highlighted, so you can check it before copying or downloading.

About Excel

XLSX is the Excel workbook format used since 2007. It can hold several sheets, keeps numbers and dates as real values and is opened by Excel, Google Sheets, Numbers and LibreOffice.

About JSON

JSON is the data format of the web. A table becomes an array of objects, one object per row, with column names as keys. It is ready for APIs, scripts and NoSQL databases.

Frequently asked questions

Can I get an array of arrays instead?

The output is an array of objects, which is what most APIs expect. Turn off the header option to get keys based on column positions.

Are my files uploaded?

No. Reading and writing happen in your browser. Your files are not sent to our servers.

Can I convert old .xls files?

Old .xls files are not supported. Open them in Excel or LibreOffice and save them as .xlsx first.

What if my workbook has several sheets?

A sheet selector appears after you open the file. Pick the sheet you want and it is converted immediately.

Are formulas kept?

The converter uses the last calculated values that are saved in the file. Formulas themselves are not copied.

How is nested JSON handled?

Nested objects are flattened into columns like address.city, so every value gets its own column.
