The classic meme look
Most memes use the same lettering: a heavy, narrow typeface in white capitals with a thick black outline, so the words stay readable on light and dark parts of any photo. The generator uses Impact when your device has it, which is the case on Windows and macOS. On phones and other systems without Impact it falls back to the closest bold font installed, so letters can look slightly different there.
The top text grows downward from the top edge and the bottom text upward from the bottom edge. Long lines wrap automatically and the letters shrink if a caption would cover more than about a third of the picture. Uppercase is on by default; switch it off for sentence style captions. Text size, font, color and outline color apply to all captions at once, so the meme stays consistent; text in the white panels of a layout stays dark so it can be read.
Extra text boxes and panel layouts
Add text places another caption in the middle of the picture. Drag it to the right spot, pull the round corner handle to make it bigger or smaller, and use the handle above it to tilt it. Arrow keys nudge a selected box in small steps, which helps when you label objects in the photo.
For comparison memes choose a blank layout: Two rows and Four rows put an image on the left and a white text panel on the right of each row, Side by side shows two images next to each other, and Grid shows four images with a caption on each. Click Add image on a panel to fill it with your own picture; it is cropped from the center to fill the panel. We do not include famous meme pictures, because they belong to their creators. Use your own photos, screenshots or images you have the right to use.
Private by design
Your pictures stay on your device: the meme is drawn and saved by your browser, nothing is uploaded and there is no account. The download has no watermark and no added logo.
