Layers you can place by hand
Every text is its own layer. Click a layer on the picture or in the list above the settings to select it; the settings then change only that text. Drag it to move, pull the round handle at the corner to change its size and turn it with the handle above. Rotation snaps to straight when you get close to zero, and holding Shift snaps it to steps of 15 degrees. Duplicate copies a styled text, which is quick for labels that should look the same.
Line breaks you type are kept, and the alignment setting lines up the rows left, centered or right. Use Delete in the panel, or press the Delete key while a text box is focused, to remove a layer.
Readable on any background
Text on a busy photo needs help to stand out. An outline draws a contour around every letter, a shadow lifts the text off the picture, and a background box puts a rounded, semi transparent panel behind it, the look of a caption on a video. Each one has its own color, and the box opacity lets the photo show through as much as you like.
Fonts come from your device: the list offers sans serif, serif, monospace, condensed, rounded and handwritten styles plus Impact, and each one falls back to a similar font that is installed. Nothing is downloaded, so the same choice can look a little different on a phone and on a computer.
Full quality output
The preview is scaled to fit your screen, but the download is drawn again at the full size of the photo, so text stays sharp on a 12 or 48 megapixel picture. Phone photos are shown the right way up because their rotation is read from the file. Same as original keeps JPG, PNG and WebP in their format; other formats such as HEIC are saved as JPG.
