Normalize audio

Bring audio and video files to the same loudness: each file is measured and adjusted to a target in LUFS, or to a peak of -1 dB. Normalize is already selected on this page.

Your files never leave your device. Everything runs in your browser.

How it works

  1. Add filesDrop audio or video files on the tool, or choose them from your device.
  2. Check the settingThe setting for this page is already selected; adjust it if you like.
  3. DownloadDownload each file, or all of them as a ZIP.

Peak or loudness normalization

Peak normalization moves the loudest single moment to -1 dB. It never clips, but two files with the same peak can still sound very different, because one short bang can decide the result. Loudness normalization in LUFS looks at the whole file the way the ear does, so speech, music and recordings from different sources end up sounding equally loud.

Pick -14 LUFS for music and videos for YouTube or streaming, -16 LUFS for podcasts and audiobooks, and -23 LUFS for broadcast. If reaching the target would push peaks above -1 dB, they are limited softly, so very dynamic files can end up slightly below the target.

Batches and playlists

Drop a whole folder of songs or episodes at once. Each file gets its own measurement and gain, and the list shows the measured loudness and the change for every file. Download all results as a ZIP.

Frequently asked questions

Which LUFS value should I use?

-14 LUFS for music and online video, -16 LUFS for podcasts and speech, -23 LUFS for broadcast.

Is the measurement exact?

It follows the ITU-R BS.1770 method and is close to professional meters, but it is not a certified measurement.

Are my files uploaded?

No. Everything is processed in your browser and the files never leave your device.

How much louder can I make a file?

Up to +30 dB. On a quiet recording that is a big boost; on a file that is already loud, more than a few dB mostly flattens the peaks.

Will the boosted file distort?

Peaks are limited softly above -1 dB instead of being cut off, so there is no harsh crackling. With very large boosts, loud parts can sound squashed.

What is LUFS?

Loudness units relative to full scale: a measure of how loud a recording sounds over its whole length. Streaming services and broadcasters use it to play everything at a similar loudness.

Can I make a video louder?

Yes. The sound is changed and the picture is copied unchanged.

Can it boost quiet speech without making the background loud?

No, the whole sound is raised by the same amount, including background noise.
