Pixelate image

Turn parts of a picture into large square pixels, the classic mosaic used to hide faces, plates and names in photos and videos.

Your files never leave your device. Everything runs in your browser.

How it works

  1. Add an imageChoose a file or paste a screenshot.
  2. Drag over the areasEach area is hidden as you release.
  3. DownloadDownload the edited image.

The mosaic effect

Pixelation replaces an area with large blocks of average color. It is instantly recognizable as intentional censoring, which is why news, documentaries and screenshots use it. The strength slider sets the block size; stronger means larger blocks and less detail.

Pixelate selected areas or, without areas, the whole image for a retro pixel art look.

Safe for faces and plates

With a medium or strong setting faces and license plates are no longer recognizable. For short text such as a PIN, the black box is the safer choice.

You can also switch between blur, pixelate and black box at any time; the selected areas stay.

Frequently asked questions

How do I make the pixels bigger?

Move the strength slider to the right.

Can I pixelate the whole picture?

Yes. Do not select any area and the whole image is pixelated.

Are my images uploaded?

No. Everything happens in your browser.

Can blur be undone by someone else?

The original pixels are not stored in the file. For text with very few characters, use the black box to be completely safe.

Does it work on phones?

Yes. Drag with your finger to select areas.
