Speed up a video

Make a video play faster, from a light 1.25x up to 4x, and save it as a new file. Speech stays clear because the sound keeps its natural pitch.

Your files never leave your device. Everything runs in your browser.

How it works

  1. Open the videoDrop a video on the tool or choose it from your device.
  2. Check the speedThe speed for this page is already selected; play the preview or pick another speed.
  3. SavePress Change speed and download the result.

When to speed up

1.25x and 1.5x tighten up lectures, screen recordings and talking videos without making them hard to follow. 2x halves the length of a cooking video or a walkthrough. 3x and 4x turn a long process, like painting a wall or assembling furniture, into a short time lapse; for those Remove is often the best sound option.

Up to about 60 frames per second in the result, the picture is copied without re-encoding. A 30 fps video at 2x becomes 60 fps and keeps every frame. Faster than that, extra frames are dropped and the picture is encoded again, which keeps the file playable everywhere.

Speeding up for social media

Short video platforms often limit the length of a clip. Speeding up is a quick way to fit a 90 second video into 60 seconds: 1.5x does exactly that. Check the new length under the options before you save.

Frequently asked questions

How do I make a video exactly half as long?

Choose 2x. The new length is shown under the options before you save.

Will people sound like chipmunks?

No, with Keep, natural pitch the voices keep their normal pitch even at 2x or 4x.

Is my video uploaded?

No. The video is processed in your browser and never leaves your device. There is no watermark and no account.

Does changing the speed reduce the quality?

Usually not: the frames are copied as they are and only their timing changes. The picture is only encoded again when speeding up would go above about 60 frames per second.

Why does slow motion look a bit choppy?

Slowing down spreads the same frames over a longer time. A 30 fps video at 0.25x plays at 7.5 frames per second. For smooth slow motion, record at 60 or 120 fps on your phone first.

Will voices sound high or deep?

Not with Keep, natural pitch: the voice keeps its normal pitch at every speed. Choose Keep, pitch changes if you want the classic fast or slow tape effect.

Can I change the speed of only part of a video?

No, the speed applies to the whole video. Cut the part first with the video trimmer, then change its speed.

Does it work on a phone?

Yes, in current Safari and Chrome. Long videos are faster on a computer.
