Text that is easy to reuse
Plain text is handy for forms, messages, product feeds, translation tools and AI assistants that work best with clean input. Table cells are separated by tabs, so a table can be pasted straight into Excel.
Links keep their address in brackets after the link text, so no information is lost.
About Word
DOCX is the Word format used since 2007. Inside it is a ZIP archive with XML files that describe paragraphs, styles, lists, tables and images. Word, Google Docs, LibreOffice and Pages can all save documents as .docx.
About TXT
Plain text keeps only the words. Paragraphs are separated by empty lines, list items start with a dash or number and table cells are separated by tabs, so they paste neatly into a spreadsheet.
Frequently asked questions
What happens to images?
Images are left out of plain text. Use the HTML or Markdown output if you need them.
Is my document uploaded?
No. The file is opened and converted in your browser. It is not sent to our servers.
Can I convert old .doc files?
Only .docx files are supported. Open an old .doc file in Word or LibreOffice and save it as .docx first.
Are images kept?
Yes. Images are embedded into the HTML, so the file works on its own. You can also leave images out to get lighter code.
Why do fonts and colors disappear?
On purpose. The converter keeps the meaning of the content, such as headings, emphasis, lists and tables, so the text takes the look of the page you paste it into.
Does it work offline?
Yes. After you open the page once, documents can be converted without an internet connection.
