Compress PDF to 2MB

Reduce a large PDF to 2MB or less for email, e-filing and HR systems. Because 2 MB leaves plenty of room, most files only need their images resized and keep their full quality text.

Your files never leave your device. Everything runs in your browser.

How it works

  1. Add your PDFsDrop one or more PDF files or choose them from your device.
  2. Choose a levelMedium suits most documents. Use Strong for the smallest file.
  3. DownloadSee how much smaller each file got and download it, or all of them as a ZIP.

Where a 2MB limit comes up

2 MB is a size that most email services, phones and slow connections handle comfortably. Many court and e-filing systems, HR and recruiting platforms, school portals and general upload forms also use it as the per file limit.

The target is already set to 2MB. If the limit applies to all your attachments together, set a lower value for each file, for example 600 KB for three files.

What to expect at 2MB

Brochures, catalogs and reports full of photos usually fit after their images are scaled down to a sensible resolution. The text, vector drawings and links stay untouched, so zooming in still shows sharp letters.

Long scans, from tens of pages upward, may still be too large. In that case the pages are turned into images, starting at 110 DPI, and the row tells you that text can no longer be selected. A file that is already under 2 MB is returned as it is.

For very long documents

If a document has a hundred pages of scans, check whether you need all of them. Extracting only the relevant pages with Extract PDF pages often helps more than any compression setting.

Frequently asked questions

Will 2MB lower the quality much?

Usually not. Most PDFs reach 2 MB by recompressing their largest images, while text and drawings are not changed at all.

Is there a limit on the original file size?

No fixed limit. Very large PDFs depend on the memory of your device, since the work happens on it.

Why did my file stay the same?

It was already under 2 MB, so the original was kept unchanged.

Are my PDFs uploaded?

No. Compression runs in your browser and the files never leave your device.

Will the text get blurry?

No. Only images are recompressed. Text and vector graphics stay exactly as they were, except in the Pages to images mode.

Why did my file barely get smaller?

It may contain mostly text, or its images are already compressed well. Try Strong, or Pages to images for scanned documents.

Is there a size limit?

No fixed limit. Very large files depend on the memory of your device.

Can I compress a PDF to an exact size, like 200KB?

Yes. Choose Target size and type the limit in KB. Images are reduced first, and pages are turned into images only if that is not enough to fit.
