Compress PDF to 100KB

Shrink a PDF to 100KB or less for application portals with a tight upload limit. The tool lowers image quality step by step and keeps the first version that fits, so the document keeps as much detail as it can.

Your files never leave your device. Everything runs in your browser.

How it works

  1. Add your PDFsDrop one or more PDF files or choose them from your device.
  2. Choose a levelMedium suits most documents. Use Strong for the smallest file.
  3. DownloadSee how much smaller each file got and download it, or all of them as a ZIP.

Where a 100KB limit comes up

Many government, exam, visa and job application portals accept only 100 KB per supporting document: a copy of an ID, a diploma, a signed one page form. A single page scanned with a phone is often 1 to 5 MB, so it has to lose most of its weight before the form will take it.

The target is already set to 100KB. If the form asks for something else, type the value in KB. Typing a little less, for example 95, leaves a margin for portals that count sizes differently.

What to expect at 100KB

A digital PDF of one or two pages, such as a form saved from Word, usually fits with its text still sharp and selectable. Only the images inside are recompressed.

Scans are harder. If shrinking the images is not enough, the pages are turned into images at a lower resolution, from 110 down to 60 DPI. The text stays readable on screen but can no longer be selected, and the result row tells you when this happened. Long documents rarely fit in 100 KB at all; if the portal allows several files, split the PDF with Split PDF and upload the parts.

Scanning with a small file in mind

Scan in grayscale instead of color and at 150 to 200 DPI. A grayscale scan of a printed page is a fraction of the size of a color one and stays much clearer after compression. Remove blank backs of pages with Delete PDF pages before you compress.

Frequently asked questions

Will my PDF really be under 100KB?

In most cases, yes. If even the lowest resolution is too big, you get the smallest version and the row says the target was missed. Removing pages or splitting the file usually solves it.

Why can I no longer select the text?

To fit in 100 KB the pages had to be turned into images. This only happens when compressing the images inside was not enough.

My PDF is already under 100KB. What happens?

It is returned unchanged, so nothing is lost for no reason.

Are my PDFs uploaded?

No. Compression runs in your browser and the files never leave your device.

Will the text get blurry?

No. Only images are recompressed. Text and vector graphics stay exactly as they were, except in the Pages to images mode.

Why did my file barely get smaller?

It may contain mostly text, or its images are already compressed well. Try Strong, or Pages to images for scanned documents.

Is there a size limit?

No fixed limit. Very large files depend on the memory of your device.

Can I compress a PDF to an exact size, like 200KB?

Yes. Choose Target size and type the limit in KB. Images are reduced first, and pages are turned into images only if that is not enough to fit.
