Merge Excel files into one sheet

Combine several Excel workbooks, or all sheets of one workbook, into a single sheet. Columns are matched by their header names, and you can add a column showing which file and sheet each row came from.

Your files never leave your device. Everything runs in your browser.

How it works

  1. Add your filesDrop CSV or Excel (.xlsx) files on the page or choose them. For merging, add every file you want to combine.
  2. Choose howTo split, pick rows per file, number of files or a column. To merge, choose whether columns match by name or by position.
  3. DownloadDownload each part, all parts as a ZIP, or the merged file. Nothing leaves your device.

Many workbooks, one sheet

Add the .xlsx files you want to combine. Each sheet with data is used, so twelve monthly sheets in one workbook or twelve separate workbooks both end up as one table. Turn off Use every sheet of Excel files if only the first sheet of each workbook should be used.

The result is saved as a new Excel workbook with a bold, frozen header row, or as CSV if you prefer. Numbers remain numbers, while codes with leading zeros remain text.

Keep track of the source

Add a column with the file name writes the file name, and the sheet name when a workbook has several sheets, into the first column of every row. Combined with Excel's filter this makes it easy to check the rows of a single month or store later.

About Excel

XLSX is the Excel workbook format. A workbook can hold several sheets and up to 1,048,576 rows per sheet, and it opens in Excel, Google Sheets, Numbers and LibreOffice.

Frequently asked questions

Can I combine Excel and CSV files?

Yes, on the main page of the tool you can add both kinds together. The merged file can be saved as Excel or CSV.

What if the result has more than 1,048,576 rows?

That is the row limit of an Excel sheet. Save the result as CSV instead, which has no row limit.

Are my files uploaded?

No. Splitting and merging happen in your browser. Your files are not sent to any server, which matters for customer and order data.

How large can the file be?

CSV files are read in pieces, so files of 100 MB and more work on a normal computer. Excel files are read whole, so very large workbooks need more memory; saving them as CSV first is faster.

Does every part keep the header row?

Yes. With First row is header turned on, the header is written at the top of every part. Turn it off if your file has no header.

Will leading zeros and barcodes be lost?

No. Values are copied exactly as they are in the file. When you save as Excel, columns with leading zeros and long numbers stay text so no digits disappear.

What happens when merged files have different columns?

With matching by name, every column from every file is kept. Rows from a file that lacks a column get an empty cell there. Choose By position if your files have no headers or different header names for the same data.

Can I merge sheets of one Excel workbook?

Yes. Add the workbook and keep Use every sheet of Excel files turned on. Each sheet is treated like a separate file and all rows end up in one table.

Is there a row limit?

CSV has no limit. An Excel sheet holds at most 1,048,576 rows, so save very large results as CSV or split them into several Excel files.
