Split a CSV file

Split a large CSV file into smaller CSV files with the header row in each one. Choose rows per file, a number of equal files, or one file per value of a column, and download all parts as a ZIP.

Your files never leave your device. Everything runs in your browser.

How it works

  1. Add your filesDrop CSV or Excel (.xlsx) files on the page or choose them. For merging, add every file you want to combine.
  2. Choose howTo split, pick rows per file, number of files or a column. To merge, choose whether columns match by name or by position.
  3. DownloadDownload each part, all parts as a ZIP, or the merged file. Nothing leaves your device.

When a CSV is too big to import

Product feeds, order exports and contact lists grow quickly, and import screens push back with limits like 10,000 rows or 10 MB per file. Set Rows per file to the limit, add the CSV, and the parts are ready a moment later, named data_01.csv, data_02.csv and so on so they stay in order.

Each part is a complete CSV with the same header and the same separator as the original, so you can import them one after another without editing anything. The file is read in pieces in the background, which keeps the page responsive even with hundreds of thousands of rows.

One file per city, brand or supplier

Choose Column value and pick the column from the list, which is filled from your file's header. Every distinct value gets its own file, for example orders_Lyon.csv and orders_Madrid.csv. Rows with an empty value are collected in a separate file. This is handy for sending each branch or supplier only their own rows.

About CSV

CSV is plain text with one row per line and a separator such as a comma or semicolon between values. It is the standard format for imports and exports in online stores, marketplaces, email tools and accounting software.

Frequently asked questions

Can I split a CSV into a specific number of files?

Yes. Choose Number of files and enter how many you need. The rows are divided as evenly as possible and every file gets the header.

Which separators are supported?

Commas, semicolons, tabs and vertical bars are detected automatically. The parts use the same separator unless you choose another one under Separator.

Are my files uploaded?

No. Splitting and merging happen in your browser. Your files are not sent to any server, which matters for customer and order data.

How large can the file be?

CSV files are read in pieces, so files of 100 MB and more work on a normal computer. Excel files are read whole, so very large workbooks need more memory; saving them as CSV first is faster.

Does every part keep the header row?

Yes. With First row is header turned on, the header is written at the top of every part. Turn it off if your file has no header.

Will leading zeros and barcodes be lost?

No. Values are copied exactly as they are in the file. When you save as Excel, columns with leading zeros and long numbers stay text so no digits disappear.

What happens when merged files have different columns?

With matching by name, every column from every file is kept. Rows from a file that lacks a column get an empty cell there. Choose By position if your files have no headers or different header names for the same data.

Can I merge sheets of one Excel workbook?

Yes. Add the workbook and keep Use every sheet of Excel files turned on. Each sheet is treated like a separate file and all rows end up in one table.

Is there a row limit?

CSV has no limit. An Excel sheet holds at most 1,048,576 rows, so save very large results as CSV or split them into several Excel files.
