Etsy sizes and cropped thumbnails

Etsy recommends listing photos at least 2000 pixels wide, and a 4:3 frame works well. The catch is the thumbnail: in search results and on your shop page the first photo is shown cropped, so a product sitting near the edge can lose a handle, a corner or its top.

This page uses a 2700 × 2025 canvas with an 80 percent fill and the product in the exact center. That margin keeps the product inside the visible area of most thumbnail crops. You can still adjust the crop in Etsy when you upload.

White first, styled after

Etsy does not ask for a white background, and styled photos are part of what makes a shop feel handmade. Many sellers still use a clean white image as the first photo so the shop grid looks calm, then show the item in use, in scale and in detail in the next photos.

The 4:3 frame suits wide items like prints, scarves, jewelry trays and table decor. Tall items such as candles or vases will have white on both sides; that is expected and keeps them the same height as the rest of your shop.

Why 4:3 instead of a square?

4:3 fills Etsy's listing view well and leaves room for the thumbnail crop. If you prefer squares, choose the general square preset.

Can I choose how the thumbnail is cropped?

Yes, in Etsy when you upload the photo. Because the product is centered with a margin, the default crop usually works.

Are my photos uploaded?

No. The AI model and all image work run in your browser, and your photos stay on your device.

Is it free?

Amazon 2000 × 2000, Shopify 2048 × 2048, Etsy 2700 × 2025 (4:3), eBay 1600 × 1600 and a general 1200 × 1200 square. You can change how much of the frame the product fills from 50 to 95 percent.

Why does my product look soft?

The photo was smaller than the canvas and had to be enlarged. The row warns you when this happens. Shoot closer or at a higher resolution and try again.

Can I keep a shadow under the product?

No. The tool keeps only the product on a plain white background, which is what most marketplaces ask for on the main image.
