Add text to PDF
Add text to PDF lets you type on any page of a PDF: a text box is ready as soon as the file opens, and you choose its font, size, color and weight and drag it where it belongs. Useful for filling in printed forms, adding notes, dates and names, or correcting a detail.
Your files never leave your device. Everything runs in your browser.

How it works
Open the PDFDrop the PDF or choose it. Forms are detected and their fields become fillable boxes.
Add and fillAdd text, images, shapes or white boxes, drag them into place, and type into the form fields.
DownloadPress Download edited PDF. You get a new file; the original stays unchanged.
Typing on a PDF
When the PDF opens, a text box is placed near the top of the first page and the typing field is ready. Type your text, press Enter for a new line, then drag the box onto the right line of the page. Pick Sans, Serif or Mono, set the size in points and choose a color; dragging the corner handle makes the text bigger or smaller. Add as many text boxes as you need on any page.
Text that only uses Western European letters is written with the standard PDF fonts. Other letters, for example Turkish ğ, Polish ł, Czech č, Cyrillic or Greek, are written with the Noto Sans font embedded in the file, so the text stays selectable and searchable. Only scripts that Noto Sans does not cover, such as Chinese, Japanese, Arabic or Hindi, are saved as a sharp image of the text.
Correcting a word
To replace a wrong date or a typo, add a white box over it and type the correct text on top. This only covers the old text; it is still in the file underneath and can be copied. For sensitive data use a redaction tool instead.
Frequently asked questions
Can I edit the existing text of the PDF?
No. You can cover it with a white box and type new text over it, which looks the same when printed.
Which fonts can I use?
Sans (Helvetica), Serif (Times) and Mono (Courier), each also in bold. They match the fonts every PDF reader has. For letters these fonts lack, such as ğ or Cyrillic, Sans text is written with the embedded Noto Sans font.
Can I add text on several pages?
Yes. Go to any page with the thumbnails or the arrows and add text there; everything is saved in one file.
Is my PDF uploaded to a server?
No. The file is opened and edited in your browser and the new PDF is created on your device. Nothing is uploaded or stored.
Is Edit PDF free?
Yes. There is no account, no watermark and no limit on the number of files.
Can I change the text that is already in the PDF?
Not directly. Cover the old text with a white box and type the new text over it. The old text stays in the file underneath, hidden but still copyable.
Does the white box delete what is under it?
No. It only covers it. Anyone can still copy or search the hidden text. Do not use it to hide passwords, account numbers or other confidential data.
Why can't I select some of the text I added?
Text in Latin, Cyrillic, Greek and Vietnamese letters is saved as real text. Letters that the embedded Noto Sans font does not include, such as Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Arabic or Hindi, are saved as a picture of the text so they look right in every reader, and that part cannot be selected.
Will the quality of my PDF change?
No. The pages are kept as they are and your additions are drawn on top, so the original text and images stay exactly as before.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes. Tap a button to add an item, then drag it with your finger and resize it from the corner handle.
