The US 2 × 2 inch format

US passport and visa photos are square, 2 × 2 inches. The head, from chin to the top of the hair, should be 1 to 1 3/8 inches tall, which is 50 to 69 percent of the image height. Digital photos for the online visa form must be square, between 600 × 600 and 1200 × 1200 pixels, and no larger than 240 KB.

This page saves exactly 600 × 600 pixels. If the JPG is above 240 KB, compress it with the next step button.

Taking a good photo

Use a plain white or off white background, even light without shadows, a neutral expression and both eyes open. Glasses are not allowed in US passport photos. Center the head in the frame when cropping.

Frequently asked questions

What pixel size do I need for the DS-160 visa form?

Square, from 600 × 600 to 1200 × 1200 pixels, JPEG, at most 240 KB. This page gives 600 × 600.

Can I print it?

Yes. At 300 DPI 600 pixels are exactly 2 inches.

Does it work offline?

Yes. After you open the page once, you can crop images without an internet connection.
