The 35 × 45 mm format

35 × 45 mm is used in the EU and Schengen area, the UK, Australia, India and many other countries. The face, from chin to the top of the head, should take about 70 to 80 percent of the height (32 to 36 mm). The result is saved at 413 × 531 pixels, which is 35 × 45 mm at 300 DPI for printing.

Rules differ by country and office, so check the official requirements before you print. Some countries use other sizes, for example the US 2 × 2 inch format.

Taking a good photo

Stand in front of a plain light wall in even daylight, look straight at the camera with a neutral expression and keep glasses off if possible. Then crop here so that the head is centered with a little space above.

Frequently asked questions

Can I print this at a photo shop?

Yes. The file is 35 × 45 mm at 300 DPI; print it at that size or place several on a 10 × 15 cm print.

Is my photo accepted everywhere?

This tool sets the size. Background, lighting and expression rules depend on the authority, so check them before applying.

Is my image uploaded?

No. Cropping happens in your browser. Your images are not sent to our servers.

Does cropping reduce quality?

No. The kept area is saved at its original resolution. Only when you choose a ready made size is the image scaled to that exact size.

How do I make a round profile picture?

Can I crop on my phone?

Yes. The frame and its handles work with touch, and the handles get bigger on touch screens.

Does it work offline?

Yes. After you open the page once, you can crop images without an internet connection.
