Where you meet ml and oz
Drinks and cosmetics sold around the world often print both units, but recipes, nutrition labels and baby bottles from the US use fluid ounces only. A 330 ml can is 11.16 US fl oz, a 500 ml water bottle 16.91 fl oz and a 750 ml wine bottle 25.36 fl oz. Airport liquid rules are a classic case: the 100 ml limit for hand luggage is written as 3.4 oz in the US, because 100 ml is 3.38 fl oz.
In US recipes a cup is 8 fl oz, which is 236.6 ml. The list below the result also shows cups, tablespoons and teaspoons, so 250 ml of milk reads as 1.06 cups or 16.9 tablespoons at a glance.
US or UK fluid ounce?
There are two fluid ounces. The US fluid ounce is exactly 29.5735295625 ml, the UK (imperial) fluid ounce exactly 28.4130625 ml, about 4 percent smaller. 100 ml is 3.38 US fl oz but 3.52 UK fl oz. The converter starts with the US ounce, which most labels use; pick Fluid ounces (UK) in the To list for older British recipes. A UK pint is 20 UK fl oz, or 568 ml.
A fluid ounce measures volume, not weight. The ounce on a kitchen scale (28.35 g) is a different unit; for grams to ounces choose Weight in the categories.
