Convert FLAC to MP3

Turn lossless FLAC music into MP3 files that fit on your phone and play in cars and players without FLAC support.

Your files never leave your device. Everything runs in your browser.

How it works

  1. Add audio filesDrop the files; the format is already set.
  2. Adjust qualityChange the quality or choose mono if you need.
  3. DownloadDownload one by one or as a ZIP.

Keep the archive, carry the MP3

FLAC is perfect for a music archive, but files are large and many car stereos, older players and some phones do not support it. A common setup is to keep the FLAC collection at home and carry MP3 copies made at 256 kbit/s.

Drop a whole album: each track is converted in turn and the results come together in one ZIP. High resolution FLAC at 88.2 or 96 kHz is resampled to 48 kHz, which MP3 needs.

Quality advice

Choose 256 kbit/s for music. The difference from the FLAC is very hard to hear and the files are about a quarter of the size.

Frequently asked questions

Can I convert a whole album?

Yes. Drop all tracks at once and download them as a ZIP.

What happens to 24 bit or 96 kHz FLAC?

It is converted to 48 kHz, the highest rate MP3 supports.

How good is the MP3 quality?

MP3 files are made with the open source LAME encoder (lame.sourceforge.io). At 192 kbit/s most listeners cannot tell them from the original; choose 256 kbit/s for music archives.

Does converting improve quality?

No. Converting a compressed file to WAV keeps its current quality but cannot restore what was lost.

Are my files uploaded?

No. Everything happens in your browser.

Which input formats work?

MP3, WAV, M4A, AAC, OGG, Opus, FLAC and WebM audio.
