Convert WAV to M4A

Make large WAV files about ten times smaller as M4A with AAC, while keeping them sounding great for sharing and listening.

Your files never leave your device. Everything runs in your browser.

How it works

  1. Add audio filesDrop the files; the format is already set.
  2. Adjust qualityChange the quality or choose mono if you need.
  3. DownloadDownload one by one or as a ZIP.

Share recordings easily

A three minute WAV song is around 30 MB, too big for many email and chat limits. As M4A at 192 kbit/s it is about 4 MB and sounds practically the same. M4A plays on iPhones, Android, Windows, Mac and in every music app.

Choose 128 kbit/s for speech and podcasts, 192 or 256 kbit/s for music. The encoder is built into your browser; current Chrome, Edge and Safari support it.

Your audio stays with you

Demos, unreleased songs and recordings are converted on your device and never uploaded.

About WAV

WAV is uncompressed audio: large files, no further quality loss and opened by every editor.

About M4A

M4A is AAC audio in an MP4 container, compact and widely supported, the default on Apple devices.

Frequently asked questions

Which quality should I choose?

128 kbit/s for speech, 192 kbit/s for most music, 256 kbit/s for critical listening.

How good is the MP3 quality?

MP3 files are made with the open source LAME encoder (lame.sourceforge.io). At 192 kbit/s most listeners cannot tell them from the original; choose 256 kbit/s for music archives.

Does converting improve quality?

No. Converting a compressed file to WAV keeps its current quality but cannot restore what was lost.

Are my files uploaded?

No. Everything happens in your browser.

Which input formats work?

MP3, WAV, M4A, AAC, OGG, Opus, FLAC and WebM audio.
