Convert WAV to MP3

Turn large WAV recordings into MP3 files about ten times smaller that still sound clear and play on every device.

Your files never leave your device. Everything runs in your browser.

How it works

  1. Add audio filesDrop the files; the format is already set.
  2. Adjust qualityChange the quality or choose mono if you need.
  3. DownloadDownload one by one or as a ZIP.

Make big recordings small

WAV is uncompressed, so a minute of stereo sound takes about 10 MB. That is fine in a studio but awkward for email, messaging apps and phones. As MP3 at 192 kbit/s the same minute takes about 1.4 MB and still sounds like the original to nearly everyone.

Typical uses: recordings from a field recorder or audio interface, exports from a DAW, voice prompts, old CD rips and recordings from voice recorders that save WAV.

Pick the right quality

Use 256 kbit/s for music you want to keep, 192 kbit/s for everyday listening and 128 kbit/s or Mono for speech, podcasts and voice memos.

About WAV

Frequently asked questions

How much smaller is MP3 than WAV?

About seven to eleven times smaller depending on the quality you choose.

Which quality should I choose?

192 kbit/s for most uses, 256 kbit/s for music archives, 128 kbit/s with Mono for speech.

How good is the MP3 quality?

MP3 files are made with the open source LAME encoder (lame.sourceforge.io). At 192 kbit/s most listeners cannot tell them from the original; choose 256 kbit/s for music archives.

Does converting improve quality?

No. Converting a compressed file to WAV keeps its current quality but cannot restore what was lost.

Are my files uploaded?

No. Everything happens in your browser.

Which input formats work?

MP3, WAV, M4A, AAC, OGG, Opus, FLAC and WebM audio.
