Convert M4A to WAV

Convert M4A files, such as iPhone voice memos and iTunes music, to WAV for editors, transcription and devices that need WAV.

Your files never leave your device. Everything runs in your browser.

How it works

  1. Add audio filesDrop the files; the format is already set.
  2. Adjust qualityChange the quality or choose mono if you need.
  3. DownloadDownload one by one or as a ZIP.

Voice memos ready for editing

iPhone Voice Memos and many recording apps save M4A. Transcription services, Windows tools, DAWs and some hardware prefer WAV. The converter decodes the AAC audio and writes it as uncompressed WAV at the original sample rate, ready to edit without further loss.

Turn on Mono for speech recordings: voice memos are usually mono anyway, and the file becomes half the size.

Private recordings stay private

Interviews, meetings and personal notes are converted on your device and never uploaded.

About M4A

M4A is AAC audio in an MP4 container, compact and widely supported, the default on Apple devices.

About WAV

WAV is uncompressed audio: large files, no further quality loss and opened by every editor.

Frequently asked questions

Why is the WAV so much bigger?

WAV is uncompressed; M4A stores the same sound in about a tenth of the space.

How good is the MP3 quality?

MP3 files are made with the open source LAME encoder (lame.sourceforge.io). At 192 kbit/s most listeners cannot tell them from the original; choose 256 kbit/s for music archives.

Does converting improve quality?

No. Converting a compressed file to WAV keeps its current quality but cannot restore what was lost.

Are my files uploaded?

No. Everything happens in your browser.

Which input formats work?

MP3, WAV, M4A, AAC, OGG, Opus, FLAC and WebM audio.
