How it works
Add your BMP filesDrop them onto the page or choose them from your device. You can add as many as you like.
Check the settingsThe output is already set to JPG. You can still change the settings if you need to.
DownloadSave each JPG on its own or get them all at once in a ZIP file.
Why convert BMP to JPG?
BMP stores every pixel without compression, so a single photo can take up tens of megabytes. These files usually come from scanners, older Windows programs or legacy systems.
Converting to JPG makes them easy to email and upload while they look the same to the eye.
About BMP
BMP is an uncompressed bitmap format from Windows. It stores every pixel as raw data, so files are very large. You will mostly see it from scanners and older software.
About JPG
JPG (or JPEG) is the most widely used format for photos. It uses lossy compression to keep files small, and almost every device, app and website accepts it. It does not support transparency, and quality drops a little each time a JPG is edited and saved again.
Frequently asked questions
Why are BMP files so large?
BMP saves each pixel as raw data. A 12 megapixel photo is about 36 MB as a BMP and often less than 3 MB as a JPG.
Are my images uploaded anywhere?
No. The conversion runs in your browser on your own device. Your files are not sent to our servers.
Is there a limit on file size or number of files?
There is no fixed limit. Very large images depend on how much memory your device has, so a phone may struggle with images above about 50 megapixels.
Is it free?
Yes. There is no sign-up and no watermark.
Does it work without an internet connection?
Yes. After you open the page once, it keeps working even if your connection drops, because the conversion runs entirely in your browser.
What happens to transparent areas when I convert to JPG?
JPG cannot store transparency, so those areas are filled with a background color. White is the default and you can pick another color in the options.
Which format gives the smallest file?
It depends on the image. After converting, use Find the smallest format: the tool tries WebP, JPG and PNG with your own files and shows which one is smallest.
Can I keep working on the converted files?
Yes. The Next step bar takes your results straight to another conversion without uploading or choosing them again.
Does it work with animated GIFs?
The first frame of an animated GIF is converted as a still image.
