Convert PNG to GIF

Save PNG images as GIF for older systems, email templates or tools that only accept GIF.

Your files never leave your device. Everything runs in your browser.

How it works

  1. Add your PNG filesDrop them onto the page or choose them from your device. You can add as many as you like.
  2. Check the settingsThe output is already set to GIF. You can still change the settings if you need to.
  3. DownloadSave each GIF on its own or get them all at once in a ZIP file.

Why convert PNG to GIF?

GIF is an old format limited to 256 colors, but it is still accepted almost everywhere, including old email clients and legacy software.

Logos, icons and simple graphics convert well. Photos lose some color detail, because millions of colors have to fit into a palette of 256.

About PNG

PNG is a lossless format. It keeps every pixel exactly as it is and supports transparent backgrounds, which makes it ideal for screenshots, logos and graphics with text. The downside is size: photos saved as PNG are often several times larger than the same photo as JPG.

About GIF

GIF is one of the oldest image formats on the web. It is limited to 256 colors and supports simple on or off transparency and animation. Today it is mostly used for short animations and for compatibility with older systems.

Frequently asked questions

Is transparency kept?

GIF only knows fully transparent or fully solid pixels. Mostly transparent pixels become transparent and the rest become solid, so soft edges can look a little rough.

Are my images uploaded anywhere?

No. The conversion runs in your browser on your own device. Your files are not sent to our servers.

Is there a limit on file size or number of files?

There is no fixed limit. Very large images depend on how much memory your device has, so a phone may struggle with images above about 50 megapixels.

Is it free?

Yes. There is no sign-up and no watermark.

Does it work without an internet connection?

Yes. After you open the page once, it keeps working even if your connection drops, because the conversion runs entirely in your browser.

What happens to transparent areas when I convert to JPG?

JPG cannot store transparency, so those areas are filled with a background color. White is the default and you can pick another color in the options.

Which format gives the smallest file?

It depends on the image. After converting, use Find the smallest format: the tool tries WebP, JPG and PNG with your own files and shows which one is smallest.

Can I keep working on the converted files?

Yes. The Next step bar takes your results straight to another conversion without uploading or choosing them again.

Does it work with animated GIFs?

The first frame of an animated GIF is converted as a still image.
