Convert PNG to JPG

Make PNG images smaller and easier to share by saving them as JPG. Transparent areas get a background color you choose.

Your files never leave your device. Everything runs in your browser.

How it works

  1. Add your PNG filesDrop them onto the page or choose them from your device. You can add as many as you like.
  2. Check the settingsThe output is already set to JPG. You can still change the settings if you need to.
  3. DownloadSave each JPG on its own or get them all at once in a ZIP file.

Why convert PNG to JPG?

PNG files are lossless, which makes them large, especially photos and screenshots with lots of color. JPG uses lossy compression and often cuts the file size by 70 to 90 percent with little visible difference.

That makes JPG a better fit for email attachments, forms with an upload limit and most websites.

About PNG

PNG is a lossless format. It keeps every pixel exactly as it is and supports transparent backgrounds, which makes it ideal for screenshots, logos and graphics with text. The downside is size: photos saved as PNG are often several times larger than the same photo as JPG.

About JPG

JPG (or JPEG) is the most widely used format for photos. It uses lossy compression to keep files small, and almost every device, app and website accepts it. It does not support transparency, and quality drops a little each time a JPG is edited and saved again.

Frequently asked questions

Will I lose quality when converting PNG to JPG?

A little, because JPG is a lossy format. At 85 to 92 percent quality the difference is hard to see in photos. Text and thin lines can look slightly soft, so keep those images as PNG if every detail matters.

Why did my transparent background turn white?

JPG cannot store transparency. The tool fills transparent pixels with the background color from the options, which is white by default.

Are my images uploaded anywhere?

No. The conversion runs in your browser on your own device. Your files are not sent to our servers.

Is there a limit on file size or number of files?

There is no fixed limit. Very large images depend on how much memory your device has, so a phone may struggle with images above about 50 megapixels.

Is it free?

Yes. There is no sign-up and no watermark.

Does it work without an internet connection?

Yes. After you open the page once, it keeps working even if your connection drops, because the conversion runs entirely in your browser.

What happens to transparent areas when I convert to JPG?

JPG cannot store transparency, so those areas are filled with a background color. White is the default and you can pick another color in the options.

Which format gives the smallest file?

It depends on the image. After converting, use Find the smallest format: the tool tries WebP, JPG and PNG with your own files and shows which one is smallest.

Can I keep working on the converted files?

Yes. The Next step bar takes your results straight to another conversion without uploading or choosing them again.

Does it work with animated GIFs?

The first frame of an animated GIF is converted as a still image.
