How it works
Add your JPG filesDrop them onto the page or choose them from your device. You can add as many as you like.
Check the settingsThe output is already set to PNG. You can still change the settings if you need to.
DownloadSave each PNG on its own or get them all at once in a ZIP file.
Why convert JPG to PNG?
Every time a JPG is edited and saved again it loses a bit more quality. A PNG copy stays exactly the same no matter how often you save it, which helps when you add text, crop or layer the image in a design tool.
Converting does not bring back detail that JPG compression already removed, but it stops any further loss from this point on.
About JPG
JPG (or JPEG) is the most widely used format for photos. It uses lossy compression to keep files small, and almost every device, app and website accepts it. It does not support transparency, and quality drops a little each time a JPG is edited and saved again.
About PNG
PNG is a lossless format. It keeps every pixel exactly as it is and supports transparent backgrounds, which makes it ideal for screenshots, logos and graphics with text. The downside is size: photos saved as PNG are often several times larger than the same photo as JPG.
Frequently asked questions
Does converting JPG to PNG improve quality?
No. It keeps the image exactly as it is now. The PNG file will usually be larger than the JPG.
Will the background become transparent?
No. PNG supports transparency, but a JPG has none to begin with, so the background stays as it was. You would need to remove it in an image editor.
Are my images uploaded anywhere?
No. The conversion runs in your browser on your own device. Your files are not sent to our servers.
Is there a limit on file size or number of files?
There is no fixed limit. Very large images depend on how much memory your device has, so a phone may struggle with images above about 50 megapixels.
Is it free?
Yes. There is no sign-up and no watermark.
Does it work without an internet connection?
Yes. After you open the page once, it keeps working even if your connection drops, because the conversion runs entirely in your browser.
What happens to transparent areas when I convert to JPG?
JPG cannot store transparency, so those areas are filled with a background color. White is the default and you can pick another color in the options.
Which format gives the smallest file?
It depends on the image. After converting, use Find the smallest format: the tool tries WebP, JPG and PNG with your own files and shows which one is smallest.
Can I keep working on the converted files?
Yes. The Next step bar takes your results straight to another conversion without uploading or choosing them again.
Does it work with animated GIFs?
The first frame of an animated GIF is converted as a still image.
